 This lot includes a Lead (Pb) Scintillation Chamber, a Harshaw (Bicron), 5", NaI(Tl) Crystal and PMT Assy, and a common, Bicron hand-held Gieger Counter.

CHAMBER: The chamber is a serious piece. It consists of a base which is 12" wide X 10 1/2" deep X 11 1/2" high. The base supports a cylinder which is 15" high X 10 1/2" OD. The entire unit is about 30" tall. The rectangular base encloses a specimin chamber that is 6"high X 6"deep X 9"wide. The chamber can be accessed by (in the front) two hinged ship-lapped doors, which are about 2 1/2" thick. The chamber can also be accessed by removable, 6" X 6", right or left side panels, which are also 2 1/2" thick. The cylinder, which houses the scintillation crystal is welded to the base. The cylinder bore is @6" ID, and accepts the NaI(T1) crystal, which looks down on the specimin chamber. The chamber is constructed of a 1/4" Steel casing, lined with 2" of lead. The rectangular specimin chamber is lined with @8Ga. Copper Plate on the inside. The crystal housing is of the same construction and is lined with cork. Defects: Paint scratched and chipped (not badly, though) and a broken door latch (about $1.50 at the local hdwre store). The doors are tight enough to remain closed without the latch.

SODIUM IODIDE CRYSTAL AND PMT ASSY: The Scintillation Crystal detector is a Harshaw 20SA16/5B, NaI(Tl), 5" sodium iodide crystal with a B125B01-2 photomultiplier. The window is @4 3/4" dia. Beryllium, I believe ("Looks like stainless to me"). The entire unit is chrome plated and polished to a mirror finish. Defect: Two minor dents in the window. They do not penetrate the window. Detailed images can be e-mailed if this is a concern.

GIEGER COUNTER: When we received the system, the Bicron, Surveyor 50, was hooked up as the readout device.

This unit is quite heavy, probably more than 1000#. The chamber will have to be shipped by truck but we will ship the crystal by UPS or FedEx.
